Kelli Robertson is a multi-talented member using her skills for good in the community. We are glad she took some time to share what she’s been up to with us.
How long have you been a member?
I’ve been a member since 2014.
What do you like to sew?
I really like to sew a little of everything. Most of my projects are shorter projects to try something out for the kids classes I teach or because I need something for a trip. I also have a personal goal to be able to sew my own clothes.
What groups do you participate in?
I am currently the Website Co-chair and I occasionally attend Designing Divas and Tojour Couture meetings.
Can you tell us about a recent project?
I just finished making the Mila Shirt pattern from Indie Sew. I love digital download patterns. I have also been sewing costumes for Fowler Middle School’s Theater program. Over the last 3 years that my daughter has participated in productions, I have had the opportunity to sew a number of strange and interesting things. A few of the projects for the middle school include: giant bugs for their production of James and Giant Peach, orphan costumes for Annie, and the crocodile costume for Peter Pan, and I even hand sewed some “ghosts” out of chicken wire for their production of Triangle.
How do you spread the art of sewing?
I love to teach beginning sewing to young children. I enjoy researching projects and figuring out the best way to make them, and then create my own tutorial. I love to see how excited kids get about sewing. They are fearless and they catch on fast! I believe sewing increases their self confidence and teaches them a useful skill at the same time.
