sagaThe 34th annual Smocking Arts Guild America (SAGA) convention will be held October 23-27 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, Frisco Texas. For registration options, please check the website or this pdf download.

SAGA Convention Faculty
Plans for the 2013 Convention include eleven internationally recognized teachers. Judith Adams, Carol Ahles, Jeannie Baumeister, Phyllis Brown, Gail Doane, Debbie Glenn, Barbara Meger, Claudia Newton, Susan O’Connor, Vaune Pierce, and Lyn Weeks will be teaching classes in smocking, fine hand and machine sewing, embroidery, and construction.

Featherweight to be raffled at 2013 Convention
SAGA has been given an original Featherweight™ sewing machine by Lyn Weeks. We will be raffling this at the Frisco Convention. The serial number is AJ615814, and the machine includes an instruction book, spare needles, a carrying case, bobbins, a buttonhole machine, and additional feet.

This will be a separate raffle from the regular (and wonderful) raffle baskets.  Only 500 raffle tickets for the Featherweight™ Raffle will be sold, at $5 each, and will be available for sale only at convention.

If you are not attending, you may send money with a friend or a board member and your name will be entered into the raffle for this exciting prize.

Pre Day Classes for 2013 Convention
We have two very exciting and different opportunities during preday.

First, if you have always wanted to try machine embroidery, this is your chance.  Bernina of America will offer two different half day class projects.  They will have their 700 series machines available for use during these classes.

Second, Lyn Weeks will teach “Pattern Drafting for Babies and Children”.  This is a unique opportunity to learn to make changes in a pattern that will suit your design or size needs.

Doll Clothes Contest at 2013 Convention
Put your thinking caps on and create an outfit for an 18” doll to enter in SAGA’s 2013 Convention Contest.  There will be three categories: Western, Play clothes and Party Clothes.  Each entry should include smocking or heirloom sewing or embroidery.

Winners will be determined by votes of attendees.  The board plans that some of these outfits will be donated for traveling trunk shows that will be taken by board members to various quilt/sewing expos to publicize and promote SAGA.
